Imagine these scenarios.
You are writing an examination and
it seems you won’t make it. Fortunately, your seatmate is ‘endowed’ when it
comes to knowledge and you just think ‘why not copy from him/her?’.
You do something you know your
parents will not approve of. And when they ask you, you hide the facts because
you do not want to face the consequences.
You see something that does not
belong but appeals to you and you think ‘let me steal this item because if I don’t,
I will have to save up for it’.
In each of these scenarios, one
might think that dishonesty is an easy way to scale through. Afterall, most dishonest
persons tend to get away with almost anything in life. Being honest is not easy
especially in this crooked world. This brings us to the question. Does it pay
to be honest?
DOES
IT PAY TO BE HONEST?
Honesty is the quality of being truthful
and sincere. When you are honest, you have a good reputation but when you are
dishonest, you have a bad reputation. And just how bad is that? A cracked foundation
can weaken an entire structure, similarly, dishonesty can undermine a good
reputation. Honesty also brings good conscience, good relationship with others
and inner peace of mind knowing that you are doing the right thing. And what is
better than that? Absolutely nothing.
It is true that sometimes people do
not always notice what an honest person does and often, honest ones are being
ridiculed and told stuffs like ‘Are you the Most Holy?’. This can be
discouraging but just think about this: Even those who are dishonest
appreciates honest ones. They will like to mingle with them and even reveal
confidential matters to them. Dishonest people who own companies will not like
to employ dishonest person to take care of financial matters except he is
inviting business failure. Honest people are dependable and reliable. In fact, honest
people have greater chances of being successful in life. Even when no one
notices what a honest person does, God takes note and he will reward those who
are honest.
So the bottom line is HONESTY PAYS!
