    ONDO STATE POLYTECHNIC WORKERS CALLS FOR THE REMOVAL OF RECTOR




    The Union leaders and the whole workforce of the institution troop out en mass and converge at the gate of the institution as early as 7am today protesting and chanting solidarity songs.

    The workers were carrying placards with various inscription such as “We are saying no to Ologunagba; No more Ologunagba and Amos; Akeredolu, save RUGIPO from total collapse; Ologunagba must go now; Enough of mal – administration.

    The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Owo chapter Comrade Rafiu Ijawoye; Acting Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics, Comrade Chris Olowolade and the Chairman of the Non – Academic staff Union of Polytechnics, NASU, Comrade Adebayo Obayoriade unanimously called for the immediate sack of the Rector of the institution, Engr. Idowu Boniface Ologunagba and the Chief Security officers of the institution, Mr. Amos Ifedayo.

    The Union leaders while speaking with newsmen today accused the management of the institution for not providing enough security for it members despite receiving N2.5million naira from the state government to mobilize security for the institution.
    They called on the state government to sack the Rector and the CSO and set up of a panel of enquiry to uncover the remote and immediate cause of the protest.
    The Unions accused the management of the institution for not providing enough security for it members knowing fully well that the policy of ” No school fees, No exam” could lead to violent protest by the students.
    They added that they’ve directed their members to withdraw academic activities till further notice.
    “We will not resume academic activities Until the Rector and the Chief Security officer,CSO, of the institution are sacked .
    “As we are speaking, the state government is still owing us four months salary for 2016 and another three months salary for 2017 aside other allowances”.
     
    The angry students who were sent out from their various halls for non payment of school fees went berserk leading to rampage and destruction of properties worth millions of naira,including the invasion of the ICT centre of the institution.
    Meanwhile, the management has ordered the immediate closure of the polytechnic and ordered the students to vacate the campus.
