National Youth
Service Corps has some very strict guidelines for registration. If you do not
comply with them, you may face some unpleasant consequences. Find out all you
need to know about the NYSC requirements in order to have an easy and seamless
NYSC registration. Stick around until the end of the article to find out the essential
things to take to the NYSC camp.
REQUIREMENTS FOR
NYSC ONLINE REGISTRATION
NYSC Nigeria has some very defined
requirements for those who plan on registering. Here are the main requirements
for NYSC online registration: In order to register, you need to visit one of
NYSC websites. If you are looking for general information and news, go to
www.nysc.gov.ng. If you want to register, go to www.nysc.org.ng. Before
starting the registration process, make sure you have a working e-mail address
and a Nigerian phone number. Fill in the registration form on the NYSC portal
and log in using your credentials. If you are a locally-trained graduate, use
your matriculation number for registration. Your name should also be on the
approved list of your educational institution.
If you are a
foreign-trained graduate, make sure your institution is accredited. If you are
not sure, you can check in with the Federal Ministry of Education. Upload the
letter of verification during your registration. In addition to it, you also
have to upload:
WASC (West African School Certificate) or OR
GCE (General Certificate of Education) OR High School Diploma with at least
five credits achieved in two sittings;
A Higher National
Diploma OR First Degree Certificate and its transcript;
An international
passport with the date of departure for your course of study.
If you studied in
a non-English speaking country, you would have to translate your documents
before uploading them. If you studied Medicine, Physiotherapy, Veterinary
Medicine, Optometry, Radiology or Medical Laboratory Science, you will also
need to provide a Certificate of Registration with your professional body.
Unlike before,
you do not have to verify your documents at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja. You
can do it at your orientation camp. Just take your original documents with you
to the camp, and you will be OK. If you are a married woman that wants to
register with NYSC, you will have to provide the copy of your marriage certificate,
the change of name evidence and your husband’s address. In order to print your
call-up letter, you will need to pay ₦3,000 to NYSC. Click here for full
instructions. If you want to avoid paying this sum, you can collect your
call-up number and/or letter at your school. If you paid for registration
before but you were not mobilised, you will not have to pay a second time.
Be aware:
If you present
any fake documents, you will be decamped and demobilised.
You cannot
register by proxy.
If you are pregnant or nursing, you should not
apply, as you will not be accommodated.
As soon as the portal closes, the registration
is over.
NYSC registration
2017 (Batch B) ended on November 12. Follow NYSC on their social media (nysc_ng
on Twitter and Instagram and officialnysc on Facebook) for the latest news on
the subjects of registration and mobilization.
WHAT TO TAKE TO THE NYSC CAMP
Once you have
completed the NYSC registration procedure, you should start preparing the
things you are going to take with you to the camp. Here is the list of things
you most certainly need to prepare:
Several white T-shirts with round necks. Even though you will be provided with
two T-shirts at the camp, you are required to wear them every day. This means
that you will probably have to wash them very often. To avoid wearing dirty
shirts, it is better to take some spare ones. A few pairs of white shorts. Once again, you will receive two pairs
at the camp. However, as they are white, you will need to wash them just as
often as the T-shirts. So take a few spare pairs from home.
White tennis shoes with plain white socks. The shoes provided at the camp are
not of the best quality. If you want to save your feet some pain, make sure you
grab at least one pair with you.
Provisions. Many people have complained about the food
situation at the NYSC camps. Of course, you can always go out and buy some food
elsewhere, but it would be much cheaper to take it with you.
Toiletries. You should never go anywhere without the
essential toiletries (soap, toilet paper, towels, pads, etc.), especially if it
is a NYSC camp. So put that on your list right now.
Mosquito net and bug sprays. If you want to avoid scratching
yourself like a madman from dozens of bug bites, pack up a few bug sprays (for
yourself and your roommates), a mosquito net and a rope to tie it.
Money. One of the most essential things you will
need with you is money. Even if you forget anything, you will be able to buy
it. Take both cash and bank cards, just in case.
Waist pouch. You will need to both carry your valuables
around and have your hands free. For that purpose, you should invest in a fanny
pack that would keep your stuff on you at all times.
Flashlight. You will be needing this if you plan on doing anything
after lights out. It may also be dark when you need to wake up (which is around
3.30 in the morning), so you will definitely find some use for a small lamp or
torch.
Locks.
In order to keep the stuff that does not fit into your waist pouch safe, invest
in a padlock and lock your things when you leave your room. You should also
pack up everything else you deem necessary, such as your appropriate medicine,
bed linens, power banks and so on. Prepare everything you need for a more or
less comfortable stay. And that is all you should know about NYSC recruitment
and how to go about it. Make sure you check everything before applying or
leaving for camp.
Good luck!
